Lenin Peak - The Pamir Giant

Lenin Peak is one of the highest mountain in the former soviet union. Its significance comes from its massive glaciated slopes that fall right into the great plains to the north, creating a stark contrast of geology and climate. Ronnie Forslund was directing a film project at Lenin Peak in the summer of 2025, and captured this shot of a sub-peak on Lenin rising right from the freshly blanketed Lenin glacier, with 3 climbers with full packs heading into down the highway that leads to the Lenin Ice Fall. The pursuit of beauty and adventure is ever present in this image, and represents bravery, destiny, and a desire to explore the world up high.

- Ronnie Forslund

"On the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, in the northernmost part of the ancient Pamir Range, we find peaks unlike any other mountain group. This giant rises directly from the Glacier that rolls off Lenin Peak's North Face. As an iconic view from the basecamp, this Pamir Giant is etched into the minds of every climber who dare to venture into the rim of the Pamirs. This image was captured after my first acclimatization rotation to camp 3 on Lenin Peak (23,406ft). The snow storm blanketed everything creating dream like scene only for the clouds to come in and hide away the peaks 5 minutes later. To me, this is the quintessence of beauty and adventure."
