Ausangate

Ausangate is the highest mountian in the Csuco region of Peru, and the Cordillera Vilcanota. Known for its glaciated slopes and steet vertical north face, this mountain has been at the center of Andean culture and tradition as its glaciers have been one of the great waters sources that feeds into the Amazon River. Ronnie Forslund, May 2025, climbed Ausangate and captured this image at 20,500ft of the snowy and narrow ridge that was the route coming down the mountain.

- Ronnie Forslund

"This image, captured at around 20,500ft on Nevado Ausangate in the Cordillera Vilcanota of the Peruvian Andes, showcases the ridge ascent that we opened up on an expedition film project. The glacier folds and crumbles over the ridge, creating a beautiful yet terrifying view of our way down. The clouds coming up from the left of the ridge rise up, unable to cross the barrier of ice. The fact that we were standing far above the other peaks of the Cusco region, watching as the clouds stretched high into the sky, was a spectacle I had never seen before in the mountains."
